New Jersey Nets: Struggling For A Title
The New Jersey Nets were founded in 1967. For years, they were a part of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and were known as the New Jersey Americans. To date, they have yet to win an NBA Championship title. Though their 40-year career as a franchise has seen brief periods of surprising success, their overall record has not been impressive.
The Nets spent 1 year in New Jersey before relocating to New York. Their first year in the new location was dismal, drawing barely over 1,100 people to each game. Thankfully, the team found their collective footing and by 1972, had earned a spot in the ABA Finals (though they lost to the Indiana Pacers). By 1974, the franchise was able to secure their first Championship title. 2 years later, they won their second title. Unfortunately, it would prove to be the beginning of a long drought.
The ABA officially came to an end in 1976 when it merged with the NBA. That year, the Nets posted a miserable record, becoming the worst-performing team in the league. Later that same year, the franchise left New York and returned to New Jersey. The 1980's and 1990's marked a decidedly lackluster period for the team. Though they advanced to the playoffs a few times, they failed to gain any significant momentum.
The year 2000 brought a series of staff and player changes in an effort to shake up the team. Initially, the changes looked promising and the Nets advanced to the NBA Finals in 2002. However, their timing was flawed and they ended up being trounced by the growing Laker dynasty.

Last Chance At The Izod
The New Jersey Nets call The Izod stadium in East Rutherford home. It's an old venue that was constructed in 1977 and seats over 20,000 people for NBA games. Over the years since it was built, The Izod has been home to a number of professional sports teams. However, time has taken a toll and today, the venue is considered old and outdated. In fact, the franchise plans to relocate back to New York in 2010.
If you'd like to see the Nets play live in The Izod, consider purchasing your tickets soon. There are plans in place to reduce the size of the stadium. While the Nets still officially play there, the venue's time is limited.
