Houston Rockets: Ready To Fight
They were born in San Diego as an NBA expansion team in 1967. Their first season was one of the worst in the league's history and they skidded to a 15-67 record. Since then, the Rockets have collected 4 division titles, 4 Conference titles, and won back-to-back NBA Championships in 1994 and 1995. Today, the team is a consistent performer on the court and a formidable competitor in the playoffs.
The franchise began the 1970's by moving to Texas. Despite their efforts during the regular seasons, their numbers were unimpressive. The only ray of light was the 1976 addition of Moses Malone to the roster. Malone immediately proved to be a focal point for the Rockets's enthusiasm and led his new team to their first division title. The next few seasons watched the team move into the playoffs only to be beaten quickly.
The 1980's started with promise as the Rockets pushed into the NBA Finals in 1981. They eventually fell to the Boston Celtics in a 6-game series. Malone was traded in 1982 and the team performed miserably during the following season. Hakeem Olajuwon was acquired in 1984, helping to advance the franchise to the Conference Finals. They routed the Los Angeles Lakers, but lost the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics.
The following decade is most notable due to the Rockets's winning the NBA Finals in both 1994 and 1995. Hakeem Olajuwon was instrumental during the 1994 Finals and new addition Clyde Drexler was brought on in 1995. The pair were unstoppable, leading to back-to-back NBA titles.
The Rockets have yet to regain the glory they once enjoyed. That said, with the exception of 2005, the team has participated in the playoffs for most of the decade.
Driving For A Victory
The team plays at the Toyota Center, an 18,300-seat stadium in Houston. It opened in 2003 and offers a wide array of amenities, including club seats and luxury suites. You can watch the Houston Rockets fight their way back to victory at live games by purchasing your tickets online. But, act quickly. Their performance in 2008 will likely spur ticket sales.
